Understanding Half-Strength and Its Significance in Exercise - Insights from Ayurveda

Half-Strength and Seasonal Guidelines:

Individuals who consume nourishing and oily foods during the winter (Hemant and Shishir seasons) and spring (Vasant season) should engage in moderate exercise up to half their capacity. This helps maintain balance in physical exertion throughout different seasons.

Understanding Half-Strength:

Half-strength, also known as "Balarth" or "Ardhashakti," is recognized when the breath becomes labored during exercise, indicating that half of the energy has been expended. It's crucial to recognize this state and refrain from further exertion. Signs of half-strength include sweating in the armpits, forehead, and above the nose, along with dryness of the mouth. At this point, it's advisable to cease exercise and instead massage the body's limbs. According to Ayurveda, exercising up to half-strength is recommended during cold days, followed by reduced activity, as indicated by the term "Mandamev."
